A plant tissue culture laboratory in Geelong
We work with Australian growers, nurseries, breeders and research partners on culture initiation, protocol development and small production runs. Plant health and import and export services are being added.
Who we are
MeristemLab Tissue Culture is a small plant tissue culture laboratory in Geelong. We initiate cultures from supplied mother material, develop protocols for species that are not routinely tissue-cultured, and run small production jobs. Our focus is on species where clonal propagation, disease elimination or in vitro multiplication solves a real industry problem, rather than on volume production of established lines.
Why emerging-industry crops
Smaller and emerging plant industries often share a common bottleneck: reliable, clean, scalable planting material. For many of these crops, tissue culture is the practical answer. Seed is too variable for commercial consistency, cuttings are too slow or too prone to pathogens, and conventional nursery pathways do not scale quickly enough.
That is the gap we work in. Bodies such as AgriFutures Australia and Hort Innovation publish useful research on where these bottlenecks sit, which we read as background.
How we work
For production we establish cultures from supplied mother material, multiply to an agreed quantity, root and acclimatise plantlets, and deliver ready for planting or onward nursery growing. For research projects we scope the work with the partner, agree milestones, and report results at agreed points. Every culture, media batch and transfer is recorded in MeristemLab Software, so a customer can be shown the history of their material.
Work is confidential by default, and anything discussed publicly is agreed with the partner first.

We reply with what we can take on, what it would involve, and an indicative timeframe once the work is scoped. We are a small laboratory and say so when a job is too large for us.
