Bananas

Bananas are a crop we're interested in. Tissue culture could provide clean, verified planting material for an industry where biosecurity risk from Panama disease (*Fusarium oxysporum* f. sp. *cubense*) shapes every supply decision.

The industry

Bananas are one of Australia's largest horticulture industries by farm-gate value, concentrated in Far-North Queensland and New South Wales. The industry operates under strict on-farm biosecurity protocols, particularly for Tropical Race 4 of Panama disease.

Why tissue culture

  • Clean planting material free of soil-borne pathogens, a fundamental biosecurity requirement
  • True-to-type plants from selected mother stock for yield and fruit quality
  • Rapid multiplication for replanting, expansion, and variety transitions
  • Well-documented protocols for Cavendish, Lady Finger, and emerging varieties

Why this interests us

Banana propagation, including variety trials and clean-stock establishment, is an area we work in at small scale; volume supply of certified planting material is the QBAN-accredited labs' job. If you're a grower, nursery or industry partner working in this space, we'd be glad to start a conversation.
