Date palm

Date palm is a crop we're interested in. Tissue culture of *Phoenix dactylifera* could provide clonal, true-to-type planting material for high-performing cultivars such as Medjool, Barhi, and Deglet Noor for Australian commercial production.

Why tissue culture

Conventional date palm propagation relies on offshoots (pups) from established palms. Offshoot supply is slow and limited, with each mother palm producing only a handful of offshoots per year. Tissue culture provides a scalable alternative: thousands of plantlets from a single selected mother palm, delivered in a defined timeframe.

  • Clonal material of elite cultivars at scale
  • Compliant pathway for introducing international cultivars under Australian quarantine
  • Uniform performance in the field for predictable harvest timing and fruit quality
  • Disease-free planting stock

Why this interests us

Date palm is an area we're interested in; protocol development would be the first step. If you're a grower, nursery or breeder working in this space, we'd be glad to start a conversation. Date palm tissue culture is a long-cycle endeavour, so early engagement helps.
